Graphs - Audience Research

This graph shows a wide range of music tastes with the majority going for alternative rock and indie. these genres feature frequently in magazines and are usually very popular. This question is very important as it can help you narrow down the genres to a style that appeals to a wide demographic.

This question showed what elements people like about their favourite magazines. Colour scheme was the most popular answer followed by interviews and reviews, this graph shows that the colour scheme is important to the reader and grabs their attention before they by a magazine making this element very important. Also the fact they interview and reviews was the second highest answer shows that people like to keep up to date with their favourite celebrities and bands.

This graph shows what grabs peoples attention when they look at a magazine cover. It shows that images was the most popular answer meaning that the front cover image of a magazine is very important to the reader as it may convince them to buy it. Headings was the next most popular answer meaning that a striking catchy heading also grabs the readers attention. the lowest result was artists which was a surprising results as i thought more people would have chose this as this is a main feature for me when i look at a magazine.
This question is vital to the magazine as it shows what colour schemes people prefer. the results show that red and white was the most popular answer and this colour scheme is used on alot of magazines such as Q and NME. Black and white and red, white and black were also popular choices and are more commonly used colour schemes in music magazines as they compliment each other and stand out. the least popular answers such as blue white and black are colours not often used on magazines as they aren't as bold to the reader.
This graph shows if people would rather have alot of information included on the front cover or not. the majority said no. This shows that people prefer the front cover the be predominantly taken up by and image rather than text.

The graph shows what people said made them buy a magazine. for this graph the majority was artists. This shows that the artists are a very important feature and will ultimately decide whether the consumer buys the magazine. Front cover and headings were the next two most popular answer displaying that those three elements included on the cover make the reader pick up the magazine.
The graph below shows whether people preferred alot of information to be on the contents page or not. the majority said yes meaning that they prefer alot of information on the contents page rather than the front cover. This could include things such as showing what is being displayed on each page and giving a summary of it.
The next graph shows how many people said they had musical role models and the majority said yes. This means that if the role model was included int the magazine they may possibly buy it.
Again this graph shows that the majority of people would buy a magazine if their role model was on the cover meaning that this is a feature that is crucial to the magazine, and appealing artists that are well known and popular should be displayed on the cover.
This graph shows if people preferred there to be interviews of bands included in the magazine and everyone said yes. This shows that this is a feature of music magazines that everyone loves and would look for for in a music magazine.
The next graph shows whether people like to read about new up and coming bands and everyone said yes. This graph displays that although the magazine should include alot of popular well known artists it should also include bands that are new to keep the magazine fresh and exciting.
This next graph shows quite a close results whether they prefer the contents page to be blocky or image dominated. the results show that blocky had more votes but is was close between the two. This could mean that people don't mind either way and because both ways are used alot in magazines they both are popular layouts, it all just depends on the genre you choose as a rock magazine may suit a more blocky contents page as it is more edgy and sharp.
The next question shows whether people prefer the title on the front cover to be bold or not and the majority said yes. This means that the reader prefers a front cover heading to jump of the page and stand out drawing their eye to it.
This graph shows what colour scheme people prefer and the highest results were white and clack. This could show that the readers prefer a more subtle colour and font and more simple that doesn't clash with anything on the page. This also suits most genres as they can be shown as quite neutral colours on text unless they are emphasised on a magazine such as kerrang which use this colour predominately for the genre.

The next graph shows whether people like question and answer articles and the majority vote was yes. This is an important question as it can help me decide on what kind of article i can use for my double page spread and shows what people prefer to read in magazines.
This graph shows whether people like to read about reviews of albums and singles and the majority said yes. This shows that people prefer information to be included about new release and other peoples opinions of them before they buy it.
The next question shows whether they prefer the whole front cover to be be dominated by and image. The results show that yes was the most popular answer displaying that the audience would prefer an big image across the whole page as it will stand out to them.
The next questions shows whether people prefer an image to be on one page of their double page spread or over both and the majority said both but it was a close results. Both ways work well in their own way and i think people see this as it was such a close results. I feel as long as the images have been place carefully are placed well over the centre line then either way could work.
This last graph shows what people like to read about in magazines and the majority vote was music followed by news celebrities and interviews. This shows that the most popular choice for magazines is music and is a very popular feature in magazines.
